Meloni: "Work with the US for a peace that ensures Ukraine's sovereignty and security."

Continue to work with the United States to end the conflict and achieve a peace that ensures Ukraine's sovereignty and security. This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni , who today, along with the leaders of Ukraine, Finland, France, Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and NATO, participated in a telephone call with President Trump ahead of his meeting with President Putin in Alaska on August 15. The summit was preceded by a European coordination meeting, again at the leader level, and followed by a new meeting of the Coalition of the Willing. This was announced in a statement from Palazzo Chigi.

During the discussion, Meloni expressed appreciation for the efforts made by President Trump , reiterating the importance of continuing to work with the United States to stop the conflict and achieve a peace that ensures Ukraine's sovereignty and security, and thanked President Zelensky for the seriousness he has demonstrated so far in seeking a diplomatic solution.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the American participation, along with Vice President Vance , in the meeting of the coalition of the willing, following on from what happened for the first time in Rome on the sidelines of the conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine in July.

The discussion revealed a strong consensus in reiterating that a just and lasting peace cannot exist without a ceasefire, continued support for Ukraine, maintaining collective pressure on Russia, including through sanctions, and solid and credible security guarantees anchored in the Euro-Atlantic context.

Meloni expressed her deep satisfaction with the West's unity of purpose and capacity for dialogue in the face of a fundamental challenge to security and the defense of international law. It is now time to see what Russia's stance will be in Alaska, as it has so far failed to make any significant progress.
